1.The groups of all 10 teams have been decided along with the date of the opening and final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Accordingly, the tournament will start on 26 March & The final will be played on May 29.
2.This time there will be a total of 70 matches between 10 teams in the group stage at four venues in Mumbai and Pune. The venue of the playoff matches will be decided later.
3.All 70 matches of the group stage will be held in 4 stadiums. 20 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, 15 at Brabourne Stadium, 20 at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai And there will be 15 matches at the MCA International Cricket Stadium in Pune.
4.Like 2011, this time also 10 teams have been divided into two different groups.
Group A:
- Mumbai Indians.
- Kolkata Knight Riders.
- Rajasthan Royals.
- Delhi Capitals.
- Lucknow Super Giants.
Group B:
- Chennai Super Kings.
- Sunrisers Hyderabad.
- Royal Challengers Bangalore.
- Punjab Kings.
- Gujrat Titans.
5.All the teams in their group have to play 2-2 matches against each other, in which there will be a home match and an away game. Also, the team of one group will have to play two matches from one team of the other group and 1-1 match with the rest of the teams. Actually, there will be two matches between two teams present at the same place in both the groups. These teams will play 1-1 match with the rest of the teams of the other group. Over all 1 team will play 14 matches in group stage.
